IV.   Mastery of the Structure of the English Language
1.      Presentation
Say: May ask Antonette to stand in the front of the class?Now, let us observe Antonette, what can you say about her?( Let them give their opinions)

Ø  Antonnete is tall.
               Say: May I also ask Josabet to come also in front? Look at Josabet, what can you say about her?
              (let them give their opinions)
Ø  Josabet is taller than antonnete.
               Say: Now , May I call on Xyrene to come a front? Let us observe Xyrene what can you say about  Her?
Ø  Xyrene is the tallest among the three. 

                Say: Thank you ladies,you may  go back to your seat.

               The first sentence simply makes a statement,
                In the first sentence, what adjective is used?                                                      Tall!
                Is antonette being compared to anyone?                                                              No
               Now, look at the second sentence,
                Is there any comparison made?                                                                            Yes!
                Who are compared?                                                                Antonette and Josabet
                How many are compared?                                                                                   Two!
                What word is used to show comparison?                                                        Taller!
                Look at the third sentence, is there any comparison made?                             Yes!
               Do you think there are more than two pupils being compared?                      Yes!
               What word is used to show comparison?                                                        Tallest!
               Say: Tall is an adjective in a positive form.
                       Taller is an adjective in comparative form.
                       Tallest in adjective in superlative form.
            
 When two persons, places or things are being compared,
what form of adjective is used?                                                                Comparative degree
 What happened to one-syllable adjective when two  persons,
 places or things are being compared?                                                                    We add –er
 When we compare three or more persons, places or things
  are being compared we used superlative degree of adjective.
 How do superlative of most adjectives with one or two syllables formed?    We add –est

             Say:Read and study the following sentences.Observe how other adjectives with two or more syllables form their comparative and superlative degree.
1.      Mario is efficient.
Robert is more efficient than Mario.
Dave is most efficient among the three.
2.      Sasa’s bag is expensive.
Liza’s bag is less expensive than Sasa’s
Arlene’s bag is least expensive among the three girls.

Ask: How do we form a comparative and degrees
           of adjective  having two or more  syllables?                  We add more or less.
        In superlative degrees of adjective having
           Two or more syllables?                                                     We add most or least.

2.      Elicitation:
         Let the pupils do the following:
a.      Controlled activity
Direction: Provide the correct degree of adjective in the parentheses to complete the following sentences

1.      Erma is (tall) _____than her sister.
2.      The de Castro Family is (rich)_____ than the de Leons.
3.      My ribbon is (pretty)_______than hers.
4.      His bicycle is the (expensive)_______of the all.
5.      Anthony is a (sweet)_____child.

3.      Generalization:
What are the three degrees of adjectives? When do we use the positive, comparative and superlative degree? How are the comparative and superlative degrees formed in one-syllables adjectives? In adjectives of two or more syllables?

Ø  Adjectives of one syllable form their comparative degree by adding –er. For the superlative degree, -est. is added. While adjectives of two or more syllables form their comparative degree by adding more/less. For the superlative degree, most /least is added.      
4.      Evaluation: 
Direction: Fill in the blanks with the correct degree of adjective.Use the given adjective at the left.
